“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”
Proverbs 24:3-4 ESV
It takes wisdom, understanding and knowledge to design and build a house from the ground up, all pieces working in concert to form the final product.
Likewise, for believers in Christ Jesus, our houses become homes when we establish our values upon the firm foundation of God’s Word, upon His wisdom and understanding rather than upon our own.
When we give everything over to Him and humbly submit to His being the Architect of our lives, every nook and cranny and dark corner of our hearts will be filled with His riches, the greatest of which is our salvation by grace.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control—our hearts and homes can always use more of these.
But first we need more of God and less of ourselves, more of His will and less of our own, more of His wisdom and less of our stubborn pride.
When we let Him lead us, His refinement and blessings follow. I don’t necessarily mean material wealth, although that may be true for some. What we gain when we follow Him … is HIM! HE is the greatest gift! HE is our riches!
We get to have eternal communion with the God of the universe who LOVES us and chooses us, adopting us into His family as His beloved children and preparing a seat at the feast table for us.
We are heirs to glory, brothers and sisters.
Shouldn’t we live believing all of that?
How would our lives and the lives of our families change if we lived loved, if we built our lives and values upon the Rock, if we got out of His way and let the Master Builder lead and do what He does best?
What treasures are we storing up in heaven?
Friends, I’m prayerfully mulling over those questions today too. They can be a lot to process, but isn’t it worth it?
I hope we’ll all find His wisdom and understanding and knowledge and then in faith, by His strength and courage and peace, put them into action building lives and homes that honor Him.
Go in His grace, siblings!
